Scruggs, Dodd & Brisendine represents plaintiffs and defendants in Alabama state and federal courts. Civil litigation is a central part of our practice, serving individuals, local businesses, regional and national companies, and other institutions.
Commercial disputes and civil claims
We handle disputes involving contracts, business relationships, financing and payment obligations, insurance, and property interests. Our work includes individual claims and complex litigation involving multiple parties and substantial documentary evidence.
Clients rely on us to evaluate the dispute, develop the evidence, and pursue a course consistent with their objectives. We address settlement throughout the case while preparing the issues that may require a court’s decision.
Trial and appellate advocacy
Allen Dodd has tried more than 150 jury cases to conclusion. The firm’s experience also includes extended bench trials, post-judgment proceedings, and appeals. That courtroom background informs our assessment of evidence, legal arguments, and potential resolutions.
We accept referrals and serve as co-counsel or local counsel for other firms in civil and commercial matters.
Representative experience
Class action litigation
Representation of the taxpayer class in the Jefferson County occupational tax litigation, which produced Alabama Supreme Court decisions in 2009 and 2010.
Commercial and institutional disputes
Trial work includes Cooper Hosiery v. Renfro Corporation, Bank of New York v. AmSouth Bank of Alabama, and the defense of the NCAA in the four-week trial of Keller v. NCAA.
